Carers Week (8-14 June)
THE NORTH EAST WALES CARERS INFORMATION SERVICE (NEWCIS) is supporting this year’s Carers Week (8-14 June) by organising a day for Carers at the newly refurbished Twm o’r Nant theatre in Denbigh on the 8th June from 10.00am-4.00pm. Throughout the day there will be the opportunity to have a holistic therapy such as an indian head massage, make up followed by a portrait photograph of yourself, information stands, a buffet lunch, a question and answer session with a panel of professionals working with Carers, a choir, clog dancing and much more! All this is totally FREE for Carers.
Carers Week highlights the vital work done by those who provide unpaid care for someone who is ill, frail or disabled. This year, the theme for the week is ‘Carers… The UK’s secret service’ and calls for Carers to receive greater recognition for the incredible contribution they make to their families and their communities.
NEWCIS has also arranged an afternoon tea for Carers at the Wild Pheasant in llangollen on the 9th of June at 1.30 woth NEWCIS staff on hand to answer any questions Carers may have. Carers week in Denbighshire will end with a walk on the 14th of June from the Splashpoint, Rhyl at 12.30 to the Scala, Prestatyn. We will end the walk by having tea and cake at the Scala and watching a James Bond film at 3.00pm. Again there are no costs for Carers at these events.
Lynne Simpkin from NEWCIS said: “Many Carers in Denbighshire suffer due to a lack of understanding about what they do – some don’t even recognise themselves as Carers. This has a real and negative impact on their health, finances, working and social life, and general wellbeing. Our events this week are some of many activities and services that NEWCIS provides to support Carers and make their lives as easy as possible.”
Please phone NEWCIS on 01745 331181 or email denbighshire@newcis.org.uk for any information about these events, and let us know if you would like to come along.
