Denbighshire County Council is informing residents of its decision to standardise benches that are placed in the council’s cemeteries in future.
All types, styles and colours of benches have been placed in cemeteries in the past and the Council has been concerned at the condition of some of these benches, as their poor quality meant that after a short period of time, they needed to be removed.
Those benches currently in place will stay, but in future, only durable hardwood benches arranged through the Council will be allowed.
Councillor Eryl Williams, Cabinet Lead Member for Environment, said: “The Council will use high quality wooden benches which are built to stand the test of time outdoors and this will provide families with a top quality bench that can be placed in cemeteries to remember their loved ones.
“We want to improve the environment around our cemeteries and we will work with families sensitively to discuss their needs for a fitting memorial benches”.
Anyone wanting further details on benches should contact the Council on 01824 706100 (Welsh language line) or 01824 706101 (English language line).
