DAMAGE CAUSED TO MOTOR CAR No comments yet

During the night of Saturday 4th March, the fuel pipe on a Citroen Saxo parked in Maes y Llan was cut. The owner, Jacqueline Williams said, “I have a fairly good idea who did this and I am very disappointed that someone should express their displeasure with my parking position by doing this.”Jacqueline, who at the age of twenty five, is now severely disabled and in constant pain, relies upon her car to give her a degree of independence. The damage caused to the car meant it was out of use for several days.

Jacqueline said, “I dont want to ask for an apology or to be reimbursed for the cost of the full tank of petrol and garage costs but I would, however, hope if anyone has an issue regarding my parking they will talk to me so that a compromise may be arranged.”

YSGOL CARROG No comments yet

Many of the children have been busy competing in the Urdd Eisteddfod with art, craft and stage events. The school recorder group and Lowri Williams, who plays the flute, will now compete in the National Eisteddfod in Cardiff in May as they gained first in the County Eisteddfod in St. Asaph.

Ysgol Carrog continues to be in contact with their two partner schools in Plouye and Izarra. Andrea from Barcelona is now on placement in the school and will be teaching some Spanish to the children.

A pergola has been put up in the Foundation Phase outdoor classroom so that the children can be out even if the weather is wet or windy.

There was great excitement at the end of term when three guinea pigs arrived in school. The children have decided to call them Harry, Nibbles and Scratch!

Passion for Life in Denbighshire No comments yet

The Deputy Minister for Health and Social Services, Gwenda Thomas AM, will be showing her ‘passion for life’ when she visits Denbighshire on 18 May to support the Passion for Life scheme being piloted in the county.
Passion for Life is an exciting new scheme designed to enable older people lead the best possible quality of life they can, and not let their age affect their independence or their lives.

The official goals of Passion for Life are: “To encourage older people to take responsibility for preventive work for as rich and healthy a lifestyle as possible” and also to “find messengers who can communicate knowledge and methods and spread ideas”.

Denbighshire is piloting this scheme focusing on the themes of Social Networks, Diet and Nutrition, Exercise, Safety in the Home and Creativity and Growth.

The scheme is put into practice through bi-monthly ‘life cafés’, where older people meet and are introduced to some simple improvement methods and supported to plan improvements to their quality of life.

For further information about Passion for Life, please contact Sandra Jones, Older People’s Strategy Development Officer on 01824 712900.

Conservation efforts in scenic countryside No comments yet

Efforts to protect and enhance the heather and hillforts of the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Llantysilio Mountain are paying dividends, with more than 30 acres of heather cutting and burning having taken place during 2008 and early 2009.

This conservation work on Moel y Parc, Penycloddiau, Moel Arthur, Moel Gyw and the Llantysilio Ridge is part of the Heather and Hillforts project, which is managed through Denbighshire Countryside Service.

The three year Heather and Hillforts Landcape Partnership Scheme is developing a £2.3 million initiative for upland conservation work and has received a grant of £1.5 million from the Heritage Lottery  Fund.

In March, conservation and agriculture students from Coleg Llysfasi got involved in heather burning on Llantysilio Mountain and students have also been brush-cutting fire breaks ready for burns on Moel Famau and Moel Fenlli.

Nick Critchley, Moorland Field Officer for the project, said: “As the year progresses, we expect to first see bilberry appearing in these recently managed areas, providing a valuable food source and shelter for nesting birds as it grows in size, before being managed again in about 15 years time.

“All this work is down to dedicated teams of staff from organisations involved in the Heather and Hillforts project, as well as local volunteers who work tirelessly with us to protect and enhance the history and beauty of this very scenic part of the county.”

For further information, please visit the Heather and Hillforts website: www.heatherandhillforts.co.uk or contact Erin Robinson on 01352 810614.
