Start an adventure at your library this summer

Looking for ideas to keep your children occupied over the holidays? Then look no further – ‘Quest Seekers’ is the 2009 Summer Reading Challenge taking place in all Welsh libraries this summer.

Ruth Jones, the new celebrity library champion for Welsh libraries, invites children to embark on a mystical adventure.  She comments, “The Summer Reading Challenge is great fun and an excellent way to get your kids hooked on books. Your local library is a fantastic place to entertain the kids over the holidays – whether they are using the computers, doing craft activities or meeting their friends…and all for free!”

This year the Summer Reading Challenge theme is all about the power of the imagination, it will take young readers into a mysterious and wondrous land where they can discover the joy of reading and nurture a lifelong love for books.  

Just sign up at your local library (it’s free!) and your children will receive a fabulous ‘moving image’ membership card and a special poster to keep track of their quest.

As a Quest Seeker your child will take part in three tasks: Firebird Rising, Mountain Mission and Dragon’s Lair.  Each task involves reading two books and if they finish them all, their quest is complete and they will receive a certificate celebrating their achievement.

Log on to the Quest Seekers website – www.questseekers.org.uk and the adventure will really take flight!  It’s your child’s chance to join in the games and activities, read some exclusive blogs from top authors – and there’s even a stomach-churning dragon ride!

The Summer Reading Challenge is a powerful national UK reading promotion supported in Wales by funding from the Welsh Assembly Government via CyMAL: Museums, Archives and Libraries Wales and the Welsh Books Council. Last year over 3,370 children in Denbighshire took up the challenge – more than in any other county in Wales.
